Houston is one of Minnesota's most recent tourist attractions in Historic Bluff Country. Surrounded by the "Mountains of Minnesota" with the mighty Root River twisting through the valley, outdoor enthusiasts  find a wide variety of entertainment. Because of the beauty of the area , MN Highway 16 has been identified as  a National Scenic Byway.

Southeastern Minnesota - the bluffs, rivers, and trails not only provide a  variety of recreation but also the slowed pace of small town life.  The "Mountains of Minnesota" surround Houston and countless species of nature call them home. Visiting the Houston Nature Center located at the beginning of the state Root River Trail identifies the habitat that exists today and in the past.
