Street Banners
The Chamber is looking into getting custom street banners to be sponsored by local businesses and organizations on a first come, first serve basis. Cost will be at least $100, but will be more if we hire a graphic artist to do a basic background layout so all banners have a unifying theme. Each sponsor will get to have their logo, image, and/or text on the banner giving great advertising opportunities! There are only 18 banners, but we could potentially purchase more brackets to put up more banners. Banners should be good for 4 years.
Please let Karla know if you are interested in sponsoring a banner so we can begin to gauge if 18 banners will cover the demand of if we will need to look at purchasing more brackets.

Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Minutes
7:00 AM Thursday, March 20, 2008 – Houston Nature Center
Present: Bob Carlson, Mimi Carlson, Sherman Cole, Ron Evenson, Nancy Forsyth, Melanie Jore, Jack Kerrigan, Karla Kinstler, Jerry Knudsen, Pastor Louise Stromberg.
The meeting consisted of a work session to assemble 25 Welcome Baskets to be used this year. The “Shop Local, Win Big” punchcard program was also reviewed. The following business was conducted:
The gambling fund report was given by Mimi Carlson. The gross profit for February was $2,240.42 and the net profit was $1,011.95. The current balance is $2,360.21 after bills. A motion was made, seconded, and carried to approve the gambling fund report.
Adopt-A-Highway. The Chamber’s contract for Adopt-A-Highway is up for renewal. The Friends of the Houston Nature Center are interested in taking over the Chamber’s section if the Chamber wants to give it up. There was only enthusiasm expressed for the idea by those present, so the Chamber’s contract will not be renewed.
Meeting Notices. Currently, monthly meeting notices are sent to 60 businesses without e-mail each month. It was decided that there was no need to send notices to businesses who have never been members more often than once a year to invite them to join.
Updates. It was noted that the Knowledge Bowl Team is going to state, the on-line school could add several hundred more students by expanding to include grades 9-12, and that BBC Radio in England called Karla Kinstler for an on-air interview during the International Festival of Owls.
