It was  (as they used to say) a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post  picture as the Houston American Legion members, the Houston High School Band, sporting their new uniforms, and the Houston Community gathered for the annual services commemorating the deceased veterans of our area.

2011 is the 13th Annual Root River Triathlon with the number of participants increasing each year. The Triathlon is held in May and consists of canoing, biking, and running. For information go to:

The International Festival of Owls is held in March each year. Educational programs, kids activities, a formal banquet, photo sessions and much more attract visitors .

Houston's biggest festival during the year is its annual Hoedown. It is considered one of the ten top small town celebrations in the state. The Minnesota State Horsepull, tractor pulls, dances, softball tourneys, food, flea market, fireworks and an fantastic parade makes it a weekend  that  attracts thousands.
